Coventry Medicare Review for 2019
Founded in 1986, Coventry Health Care expanded through multiple acquisitions and mergers until 2013. After 27 years of growth, Coventry Health Care was acquired by Aetna, making Aetna “the third-largest health care benefits company in America, based on membership.”1
What does the acquisition mean for Coventry Medicare plans? Basically, they're now the exact same plans as Aetna offers.
Coventry’s Medicare Advantage plans
As part of the 2013 merger, Aetna effectively swallowed up Coventry and all its Medicare Advantage plans along with it. If you visit the Aetna/Coventry website to look for plans, you'll be seeing the same plans the Aetna-only site offers:
- Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plans
- Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans
- Health Maintenance Organization Special Needs plans (HMO SNP)
Aetna Coventry Medicare Advantage plans are available in 45 states plus DC and come with prescription drug coverage. Although pricing depends on where you live, it’s easy to get a quote for a Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MA-PD) plan. Just give a licensed sales agent a call.
Or, if you’d rather check Aetna’s MA plan availability in your area before making any decisions, enter your ZIP into Aetna’s Medicare site.

Coventry’s Part D plans
As part of the merger with Aetna, all of Coventry’s former Part D plans are also under Aetna's name and are the same as what Aetna offers.
Available in all 50 states plus DC, Aetna Coventry offers three Part D plans:
- Aetna Medicare Rx Select
- Aetna Medicare Rx Saver
- Aetna Medicare Rx Value Plus
Each plan’s price and coverage varies by location, so if you want to get more accurate information, call the number below for a quote.

Note: Now that Aetna is merging with CVS, it's selling its Part D component to WellCare and will fully transition in 2020. For more information about WellCare Part D plans, see our review.
